The Brisbane Careers in Disability Expo was held last Thursday the 28th of June at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. It was a very successful event that over 400 job seekers attended. The range of exhibitors included disability service providers, job agencies and training organisations.
Thank you to Uncle Des Sandy for doing a Welcome to Country and Karni Liddell, NDIS QLD Ambassador and former Paralympian, for officially opening the Expo.
Heather Coombes, author of Marathon Wheeler: Living with Physical Disability, shared her personal experiences with everyone at the Expo.
Throughout the event we ran lots of valuable information sessions ranging from job seeker tips to what it’s like working in the disability sector. Ann-Maree from UnitingCare Queensland shared her experiences as a speech and language pathologist. She also talked about Allied Health opportunities in disability services.
There were lots of jobs on offer on the day, with numerous additional jobs expected to be created following the Expo. Care Careers confirmed that there were approximately 500 job roles available on the day. One disability service provider alone had up to 90 jobs available.
